Q&A with:

Why did you want to be apart of this campaign/photoshoot?

I wanted to do this shoot because I wanted to strengthen my journey with the bopo movement. I felt that surrounding myself with other strong women would do just that, and it really did. Bringing a diverse group of women together to just bond and goof around is an amazing experience.

What would you say is your biggest insecurity and why?

My biggest insecurity would be my double chin, my arms and my width. When I was a kid, my mom would always make a face when I ate food where she’d puff her cheeks out. Ever since then I have been self-conscious about how chunky my face is. My arms jiggle a lot and sometimes I get nervous when I wear clothes with no sleeves because I feel like everyone is just staring at my arms. In regards to my width, I feel that I am always trying to wear clothes that make me look “smaller” when I really need to focus on what I think looks awesome!

Question: The best descriptive word you’d give yourself and why?

I would say welcoming and friendly. I always try to put others happiness before mine. I want to be dependable to my friends so they always have someone to go to when they need it.

When did your body image issues start and how did you know?

I’ve always dealt with body-image issues. When communicating with my mom, she told me that when I was 7 I started gaining weight and I would cry when it didn’t go away. Other than that instance, I would say 6th grade was a struggle. I looked different than all my peers and I always dressed myself in oversized clothes throughout middle school. It wasn’t until high-school when I started to wear clothes that fit my body better. I then slowly started to accept parts of myself for what they were.

Past advice you would give yourself regarding body image or self-love?

I would tell my past self that it’s going to be okay. There are so many people who are going through what you are. You are always going to be surrounded with a wonderful group of friends who love the real you and don’t care if you decide to wear a bra or not.

Question: What do you love about yourself, physically or otherwise, and why?

I love the happiness I exude. I try to always be smiling and happy. Like I said earlier, I am a people-pleaser. So if me just being happy and smiling makes another person happy then I too will feel that way. I also love my hair! It’s big and all over the place like me. I feel like my hair is one of the things people remember about me so I try to embrace its craziness.
